Mercedes-Benz LED Headlights are Bringing Sexy Back

Is it even possible for headlights to be sexy? If it is, Mercedes-Benz has done it. Their new LED headlights pair technology and practical application together beautifully. LED technology is able to take lighting to places that Thomas Edison probably never even dreamed of.   The new Mercedes will use Multibeam LED headlamps that contain 24 high-performance LED chips that are each controlled independently. This high level of control gives the car the ability to respond to changing road conditions as they happen through the use of a windshield mounted camera and the onboard navigation. Along with the Multibeam lamps are several other LED lights that add a bevy of additional features and more in depth control. The onboard camera communicates traffic and road conditions 100 times every second to the headlamps in order to determine the best lighting configuration, making this system highly adaptive and responsive. One example of this is a bend-illuminating feature. As the camera senses a bend in the road one of the lamps can swivel up to twelve degrees to cast light around the bend before the driver even turns the steering wheel. Then, as the road straightens back out, so will the lights. This same system even talks to the onboard navigation system and can recognize things such as when the car is entering a roundabout and which way the car will be exiting so that it illuminates the path that the car will be taking, never leaving the driver in the dark. A concern with LED headlights has long been what the experience will be like for oncoming drivers as LED light can sometimes appear harsh to the eye. The windshield-mounted camera responds to oncoming traffic so that the headlights can automatically and mechanically block out certain beams of light. Due to this technology Mercedes-Benz says that drivers could, in reality, just leave the high beams on constantly and not have to worry about flipping back and forth between high and low beams on dark back roads. The Mercedes-Benz LED Headlights new technology just goes to further point out how LED lighting technology is the future. The things that can be accomplished with LED lights truly leaves all other lighting technologies in the dust. With the high-resolution of LED light paired with it’s ability to be fine-tuned and adapted to any application it’s no wonder why world class leaders such as Mercedes-Benz are turning to LED for their lighting needs.
